According to the Bible, both atheism and agnosticism are not just false but spiritually deadly. Scripture calls those who reject the knowledge of God fools, not out of cruelty, but as a divine warning of the eternal consequences of unbelief.
The Biblical View: “The Fool Has Said in His Heart, ‘There Is No God.’”
Psalm 14:1 and Psalm 53:1 both open with the same thunderous declaration:
“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt; they do abominable deeds; none does good.“

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness…“
Since the world’s inception, his qualities have been clear and understood through his creations, providing a rational basis for acknowledgment.
This passage completely dismantles the excuse that people don’t know whether God exists. Creation itself is a divine testimony. The order of the universe, the complexity of life, the moral compass within the human heart—all point unmistakably to a Creator. Yet, in their unrighteousness, people suppress that truth. Paul says they know God exists at a fundamental level but choose to reject Him, exchanging the glory of the immortal God for images, idols, or—today—scientific materialism, evolution, or human reason.
God’s response to this rebellion is not silence. It is wrath, not impulsive rage, but righteous judgment. The suppression of God’s truth is not a neutral act—it’s an active resistance that leads to more profound corruption and eventually to eternal separation from God.
The Lie of Secularism: “When You Die, You Just Become Dirt”
The prevailing idea in secular societies, particularly in the United States and Europe, is that human life lacks an eternal purpose. Secular humanism teaches that we’re nothing more than intelligent animals, the result of random evolution, and that death is the end: our bodies decompose into the earth, and our consciousness vanishes.
It’s not a novel philosophy, but Satan’s old deception re-marketed for current intellectuals. In the Garden of Eden, Satan told Eve, “You will not surely die” (Genesis 3:4), introducing the lie that there are no consequences for sin or disobedience. It is now common to find lies in textbooks, media outlets, universities, and entertainment platforms. The message is clear: “Live however you want. There’s no God, no heaven, and no hell. Just enjoy your temporary life.”
But the Bible is clear: death is not the end.
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” —Hebrews 9:27
Every soul is eternal. After death, every human being will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. The soul does not “become manure” or fade into nothingness. It either goes to be with God in eternal glory, or it descends into hell—a place of eternal separation, torment, and regret.
To Those Who Are Perishing: The Cross Is Foolishness
In 1 Corinthians 1:18, Paul draws a line in the sand:
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.“
Atheists and agnostics often mock the Gospel. To them, the idea of a man dying on a cross 2,000 years ago to save humanity sounds primitive and absurd. They ask, “Why would God send His Son to die? Why would blood be necessary for salvation?” They consider the cross illogical, irrelevant, and beneath their modern sensibilities.
Yet, it is precisely through the cross that God offers salvation.
Jesus Christ—fully God and fully man—was crucified for the sins of the world. He bore the wrath of God so that those who believe in Him might not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). This message is incomprehensible to the natural mind. Still, to those who humble themselves and believe, it is the very power of God that transforms hearts, saves souls, and guarantees eternal life.
The Eternal Danger of Indifference
Agnostics embody a stance of thoughtful skepticism, resolutely refusing to affirm or deny the existence of God. This position fosters a profound openness to inquiry, inviting deeper exploration of the mysteries of existence. They say, “Maybe He exists, maybe not. We can’t know for sure.” While this intellectual vacillation may seem modest or open-minded, biblically, it poses just as much risk as outright denial.
Jesus said:
“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” — Matthew 12:30
Neutrality toward Christ is rejection. A person who refuses to acknowledge the truth is still responsible for that refusal. Just as ignoring a terminal diagnosis doesn’t prevent death, ignoring God doesn’t change the reality of judgment.
Western Civilization: A Culture Drifting Toward Destruction
Much of Western society—particularly in America and Europe—has become what Scripture calls a “nation that forgets God” (Psalm 9:17). Schools no longer teach children to fear the Lord. Governments mock God’s design for marriage, gender, and morality. Churches are increasingly silent on sin, judgment, and hell. People live as if they are autonomous, accountable to no one.
“They did not like to retain God in their knowledge, so God gave them over to a debased mind…” — Romans 1:28
God cannot be mocked. A society succumbs to confusion, lawlessness, and moral collapse the more it suppresses truth. We see the fruit of such suppression all around us: broken families, rampant violence, sexual immorality, mental illness, and spiritual apathy.
Yet even amid this darkness, the light of the Gospel shines. God continues to call sinners to repentance. The cross still speaks. The Spirit still convicts. God’s Word is more potent than any duality that exists.
Jesus Christ: The Only Hope for the Atheist and Agnostic
The good news is that everyone can be saved. Atheists and agnostics are not God’s enemies because of their doubts—they are lost sheep in need of the Shepherd. Many have come to faith after years of resisting the truth. C.S. Lewis, once an ardent atheist, became one of Christianity’s greatest defenders. Lee Strobel, an investigative journalist and atheist, came to Christ while trying to disprove the resurrection.
“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…” — Isaiah 1:18
Jesus invites all—skeptics, doubters, and rebels—to come and believe. His death and resurrection provide not only a way to heaven but also a transformation for this life. He gives new hearts, renews minds, and fills the soul with joy unspeakable and full of glory.
Conclusion: Eternity Is Real—Are You Ready?
Dear reader, whether you identify as an atheist, agnostic, or just unsure about God, eternity is genuine. One day, you will breathe your last. Your heart will stop, and you will step into the unseen realm. The Bible says you will face the judgment of God. On that day, intellectual arguments, philosophical positions, and worldly accomplishments will mean nothing.
Only one thing will matter: What did you do with Jesus Christ?
“Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already…” —John 3:18
You are not manure. You are more than just cosmic dust. You are not a random accident of evolution. Made in God’s image, you are a soul whose life possesses eternal value.
Reject the lies of this age. Repent of your unbelief. Come to the cross. Bow before the Savior. And receive eternal life that only Jesus can give.
